If you live on Mallorca or are visiting during this week, the following are foodie events you could enjoy:
Peccata Minuta – Limited edition, Palma
We’ve attended most of these periodic tapas trail events, organized by Chefs(in) – which promotes the gastronomy and chefs of the Balearic Islands. This latest edition is on Thursday, July 21st from 8pm, and takes place on Golf Son Vida. Some of the best chefs from the islands will be there, creating special dishes for Peccata Minuta:
- Tomeu Caldentey from Michelin-starred Bou (formerly Es Molí d’en Bou) in Cala Bona
- Tomeu Martí from Restaurante Arume in Palma
- Miquel Gelabert from Can March in Manacor
- Rafa Sánchez from Michelin-starred Es Fum at St Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort
- Sílvia Anglada from Es Tast De Na Sílvia (Menorca)
- Juan Portillo – Hotel Blau at Portopetro
Places are limited and tickets must be purchased in advance from the Chefs(in) website. The evening includes food, cocktails, champagne, and wines, as well as music from DJ T-Mark.
One of our favourite beach venues – Ponderosa Beach at Playa de Muro – has a special night on Friday, July 22nd, when it will serve only a set menu of contemporary rice dishes. The kitchen crew includes a master rice chef so you can expect something good from the menu, which includes dishes such as seafood paella Vietnamese style, and octopus and quail creamy rice. The evening also includes musical entertainment from Gypsy Jazz Duo & Percussion – who were brilliant performing there on Saturday night when we visited – and later a DJ set from Fernando Gullón.
Places are limited and by prior reservation via Ponderosa Beach website.
El Palau Cafe
El Palau is a great cafe in the centre of Manacor (by the front entrance of the church) and it’s hosting a tapas tasting on Saturday, 23rd July from 6pm, with tapas made by Tomeu Adrover and cafe owner Nofre Brunet. Should be good!
Other foodie happenings this week include the 5th edition of food and black music event Eres Negre in Banyalbufar (tickets required) on Saturday, 23rd. The evening before, from 8.30pm, enjoy live painting, music (saxophone and piano) and 15 tapas, at Hotel Sant Salvador in the northeast town of Artà.
