New Palma shops for foodies and keen cooks

When a new food- or kitchen-related shop opens, The Boss knows it’ll be only a matter of time before I’ll persuade him we need to pay a visit. Recently we’ve checked out two stores in Palma that are relatively new and could be of interest if you’re a foodie or collector of useful (or just plain gorgeous) kitchen gadgets.

Mos’ Espai Gastronòmic is located on the Gran Vía Asima (no. 15) on the Poligón Son Castelló – a large trading estate on the outskirts of Palma. The smart new store’s shelves are stocked with interesting wines, spirits, beers, olive oils, chocolate, salts, and spices. Meat fans – of beef, in particular – may be impressed by the selection on the butcher’s counter, which includes beef from Galicia, Uruguay, and America, and Wagyu, Black Angus, and Limousin types. There’s also a well-stocked charcuterie and cheese counter.

We don’t eat a lot of meat, so we’re not going to be regular shoppers here, but one corner of this store could bring me back: Mos’ has a kitchen area which will be the location of cookery classes and workshops.

Cooking – The Kitchen Company (also located in Barcelona and Madrid) is an Aladdin’s cave of gadgets and equipment for the keen cook. We visited last Monday and spent quite a long time browsing around the tempting goods on offer. We both LOVED this shop (The Boss usually hates shopping) and came out with a small carrier bag of purchases. From cooking pans to cooks’ knives, cake-making to preserving equipment, and saucepans to slow juicers, you’re likely to find what you’re looking for here. Great brands include Le Creuset, Magimix, Dualit, KitchenAid, Cuisinart, OXO, and Sabatier.

Like Mos’, Cooking has an open kitchen area for limited-number cooking classes. Its next is on Mexican food and is on Saturday, January 28th; places must be booked in advance. The store is just off Palma’s inner ring road (the Avenidas), on C/ del General Riera. If you’re driving, the Comte de Sallent  underground public car park on the Avenidas is less than five minutes’ walk away.
