How do you find restaurants in Mallorca that you may like to try? Local media reviews, socials, or printed guides? When I’m researching places to review for my Restaurant of the Week feature on Mallorca Sunshine Radio, I tend to use social media as a starting point, but do enjoy browsing through the pages of a published guide just for pleasure. My current must-browse is the 6th edition of the Transfer Class Guide by Chefs(in).
This edition was formally launched at a gala event I attended last week in the intimate setting of the Teatre Mar y Terra in Palma’s Santa Catalina district (an area that’s home to many restaurants, cafés, and bars). Five establishments were new to the Guide for this year:
El Bandarra in Palma
Selvatge in Selva
Shima in Formentor
La Cocina de Cristine – Mahon, Menorca
Más Amor cocktail bar, Palma
In total, the new Transfer Class Guide by Chefs(in) includes more than 60 restaurants across the Balearics and five cocktail bars in Palma.
Each establishment has a double-page spread, with a photo, name of the chef (or bar manager for bars), a descriptive strapline, address and contact details, and a short text in both Spanish and English.
What I particularly like about this guide is that apart from its handy size (it’ll fit in the car glovebox or a tote bag) the back pages give more specific info about each place and there’s a section where you can write notes about the establishments you’ve visited. I’ve not eaten at any of the latest additions to the guide and look forward to trying them in the coming weeks, and broadcasting my reviews on Mallorca Sunshine Radio.
